MUDSTICK™

Gel strength measurement device for drilling mud.

An instrument for quickly, simply and accurately determining the gel strength of any liquid, especially drilling mud for horizontal directional drilling. The device is placed into a sample of the mud and allowed to settle to its equilibrium position. Water and other un-gelled liquids will show a zero because the device just barely floats in them. If the liquid has a gel strength (yield value) the device will stand in the liquid higher than it will in plain water. The distance it is held up is an exact measure of its gel strength.
